Secrets from the Locals

Have you ever wanted to discover what the “real Vegas” has to offer, beyond the numerous tourist attractions? Live a day like a resident and discover the “hidden treasures” that Vegas folks enjoy every day! From family friendly spots to outdoor patios and table side service, let us take you on a quick local discovery journey!

1. Michoacán Gourmet Mexican Restaurant

We’ll start with our favorite birthday celebration involving tequila and avocados! Michoacan is a must dine at, located only 20 minutes away from the strip. The tequila selection there is quite impressive so if you are into mezcal, hop on a seat at the bar. We love the fajitas there but the table side guacamole will get you addicted in minutes! It is also very kid friendly so it is an ideal spot for family gatherings such as birthdays and holidays. Michoacán is available on the GroopZoom platform.

2. Marché Bacchus

Next, we love Marché Bacchus; a hidden gem, on the West side of the Valley. Part wine store and part restaurant, you can actually get up from your table and go pick your next bottle of wine halfway through dinner. And at unbeatable prices to boot. The restaurant has indoor seating but is best known for its patio which borders a beautiful man-made lake. YES, there is water in the desert after all! We highly recommend the beef tartare, the escargots and the sole Meunière! Bon Appétit!

3. Metro Pizza

For those looking for great dough, visit our friends at Metro pizza in one of their many locations in the Valley. You will find a very laid back and fun atmosphere at both venues, where pizza making is serious business. Chef & Owner John Arena is regarded as a master in the pizza world and ensures the dough is made fresh each day, from the finest wheat! We absolutely love the “San Gennaro”, a specialty from Spring Street in Manhattan, the birthplace of American pizza. It is topped with sliced meatballs and fresh garlic. Pizza will never taste quite the same again… And did we mention they have great beers on tap? Bring friends, family or work colleagues there for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

4. Lotus of Siam

Last but not least, Lotus of Siam is our go-to for Thai food. It is only minutes off the Strip but you will probably need to use Google maps to find it. Once there we promise you will be glad you made the trip! Lotus of Siam is known for its amazing selection of Riesling which compliments Northern Thai food quite deliciously! Their wine list is actually regarded as one of the most impressive in the City. The locals and a few lucky out-of-towners mix and mingle around delicious plates such as the roasted duck curry, pad thai or salmon nam tok! It is a family friendly place and works great for small groups too.

We hope you will enjoy our favorites, but shhhh… don’t tell everyone!

Where to take your group out for lunch or dinner during Mandalay Bay’s JCK trade show

We’ve all been there. You’re in Vegas attending a convention and you have no plans for dinner. Joe and Susan are talking about this one restaurant they went to last time around but Kelly and Bob don’t feel like Sushi. The group starts increasing in size. Annie and Joanna are back from the keynote speech they ran off to earlier. They want Italian food. Next thing you know your group is up to 15 people and you come to the realization that no restaurant will take your reservation online or on the phone even if you insist. Two typical reasons: they are full or they don’t want to commit the space and risk you not showing up.

Chances are if you’re attending the JCK trade show, you will find yourself in a similar situation. But don’t worry! We are here to help guide you through this maze and provide alternatives you can either book 100% online or have a fighting chance at getting your large group in the doors. 🙂
